OFFICIAL MEETING WITH PMDC
On Monday, October 21, the Deputy Head of Mission (DHM) of the Pakistan Embassy in Bishkek, Mr. Marwan Alex Ayyash, met with Dr. Shaista Latif, Registrar of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).
The primary purpose of the meeting at PMDC headquarters was to discuss the requirements for recognizing or delisting medical universities across the Kyrgyz Republic. Representing all currently unlisted universities in Kyrgyzstan, the delegation sought clarity on PMDC’s policies and the criteria being developed for such recognition.
During the meeting, Mr. Ayyash commended PMDC’s 60% MDCAT threshold for overseas medical studies but emphasized the importance of establishing clear, actionable measures to facilitate the potential recognition or re-accreditation of the unlisted Kyrgyz institutions on PMDC’s roster.
Mr. Ayyash also highlighted the need for a timely resolution of these issues to mitigate uncertainties affecting Pakistani students aspiring to study medicine abroad. In response, Dr. Latif acknowledged the significance of this issue and assured that PMDC is actively developing revised criteria to address the recognition process. These criteria, once ratified by both the PMDC Council and the Ministry of National Regulations and Services, are expected to enhance Kyrgyzstan’s appeal as a destination for Pakistani medical students.
The conversation underscored the challenges Pakistani students face due to limited seats in domestic medical institutions, reinforcing the importance of accessible overseas education opportunities.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Ayyash extended a verbal invitation to Dr. Latif to visit the Kyrgyz Republic to personally evaluate the academic standards and facilities of its medical universities.
